# Reminder: ESM Working Group Meeting
This is a reminder the next ESM Working Group meeting is on tomorrow, Thursday 15th of January at 1:00pm (2024-02-15T02:00:00Z).
# Agenda:
**1. Admin**
- For the next meeting (29th) we will have a shared meeting with Forecasting and Prediction Working Group to discuss the Triple La Niña experiment, and an ACCESS-S2 User Training Workshop
- We need more speakers! Please do present. It does not have to be polished. It does not have to be recorded if you don’t wish it. It is a great way to share your work with the community and build collaborations
- Brief report from meeting of Co-chairs with ACCESS-NRI director @AndyHoggANU to check in with how the Working Groups are functioning
- Do you know anyone who you think would benefit from coming to these meetings? Please invite them! We definitely want ECRs and students to attend too
- Next Science Advisory Committee (SAC) Meeting is immediately after the ESM Meeting (15th). Does the Working Group have any items they would like raised at the SAC by your representatives (@tiloz and @LaurieM)?
**2. Shared experiments/ACCESS-NRI resources**
- [ACCESS-NRI Merit Allocation guidelines](https://www.access-nri.org.au/access-nri-merit-allocation-guidelines/) are available. The requirements to access time are very minimal compared to MAS applications. Come and use the resources on offer!
- ESM project `lg87` `/g/data` storage: 30TB used out of 50TB. 116KSU used 758KSU remaining.
- Status of @gpontes experiment
- Three more proposed #Earth System > Experiments (@wghuneke, @tammasloughran, @gpontes)
- Any more proposals for shared experiments for this quarter? See [guidelines for how to do this](https://forum.access-hive.org.au/t/esm-working-group-resource-allocation-guidelines/799). We are already half way through the quarter
**3. ACCESS-ESM1.5 – ACCESS-NRI supported release**
@Aidan will update us on plans for an ACCESS-NRI supported version of ACCESS-ESM1.5. It will have:
- `spack` build system
- build-CI testing
- released experimental configurations utilising `payu`
- full experiment provenance
- automated reproducibility testing
**4. What’s going on?**
What experiments are you running? Do you have a single slide you want to share? An analysis that you’re proud of, or puzzling? It can be a great way to get feedback.

# Reminder: ESM Working Group Meeting
This is a reminder the next ESM Working Group meeting is on tomorrow, Thursday 29th of February at 1:00pm (2024-02-29T02:00:00Z).
This is a shared meeting between the ESM Working Group and the Forecasting and Prediction Working Group. The meeting will be split into two sections, the first covering the shared material, and the second dealing with ESM specific items, which all are welcome to stay for, but we also understand if F&P folks prefer to leave at that point.

- `lg87` `/g/data` storage quota has been doubled to 100TB. Note that this is intended for short term storage only (generally maximum of 1 year).
- ESM project `lg87` `/g/data` storage: 27TB used out of 100TB. 117KSU used 757KSU remaining.

# ESM Working Group Meeting Poll
Sorry for the late notice, but there is an ESMValtool/CMIP7 Hackathon on this week which might mean many can’t attend a meeting at the normal time this week.
Could you please fill in the poll in the linked post to see if we have sufficient numbers for a meeting this week.

# ESM Working Group Meeting tomorrow is CANCELLED
The next ESM Working Group Meeting scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday the 14th of March (2024-03-14T02:00:00Z) is **cancelled**.
Numbers [responding to the poll](https://forum.access-hive.org.au/t/ideas-for-topics-of-discussion-for-the-esm-working-group-meetings/592/11) didn’t look positive.
The next meeting is scheduled for the 28th (2024-03-28T02:00:00Z). Sebastian McKenna (@sebmckenna) will present on “SST and ENSO biases in ACCESS-CM2 pacemakers”.
If anyone is able to present we need more speakers! Contact @Aidan if you are able to contribute.
There is still 768KSU remaining in the `lg87` compute allocation which will expire at the end of the month. If you are unsure about using it please get in touch with any of the co-chairs (@LaurieM @eunpalim @ShayneM @tiloz) or @Aidan.

# Agenda:
**1. Admin**
- @Dietmar_Dommenget has volunteered to talk next (May 23rd), and @ctychung the following meeting (June 6th). There are no speakers after that. Please do volunteer to present your science. Message @Aidan or any of the co-chairs.

- The [ACCESS Community Workshop is in Canberra again, 3-6th September](https://www.access-nri.org.au/event/access-community-workshop-2024/). @dkhutch is on the organising committee and will give an update.
**2. Shared experiments/ACCESS-NRI resources**
- ESM project `lg87` has used 1.4MSU out of 1.9MSU allocation. We have asked, and received, two additional allocations of compute quota (total 1.1MSU extra).
- 26TB our of 100TB used of quota on `/g/data/`

- We need to form an organising committee for the ESM Working Group’s own workshop. Last year we had a half-day, with Wilma as lead organiser, but she is on parental leave this year.
**2. Shared experiments/ACCESS-NRI resources**
- ESM project `lg87` has used 1.74MSU out of 1.9MSU allocation. We have asked, and received, two additional allocations of compute quota (total 1.1MSU extra). Unlikely to be more available this quarter

- ESM project `lg87` usage unchanged from last meeting. Dietmar can no longer utilise the extra compute resources, so they are being redistributed to other working groups.

**2. Shared experiments/ACCESS-NRI resources**
- ESM project `lg87` has reset with the change to a new quarter. The default allocation is 875KSU. `/g/data` storage steady at 35%
- @YanxuanD [proposed and has had accepted a 49ka hosing experiment](https://forum.access-hive.org.au/t/access-esm1-5-freshwater-hosing-experiments-at-49-000-years-ago-ka/2186) that will use 440KSU.

**3. ACCESS Community Workshop**

- The ESM WG has decided on a half day get together on the last day (Thursday) of the workshop.

- ESM project `lg87` has used 115 KSU of its 875 KSU allocation for this quarter. `/g/data` storage steady at 35%

**3. ACCESS Community Workshop**

- Need to plan format of half-day ESM WG get together on the last day (Thu) of the workshop.

# ESM Working Group Meeting tomorrow is CANCELLED
The next ESM Working Group Meeting scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday August 1st (2024-07-31T14:00:00Z) is **cancelled**.
There was no speaker available so the decision was made to cancel this meeting.
The next meeting is scheduled for August 15th (2024-08-15T03:00:00Z). We have a speaker for this meeting (subject to confirmation), and for the last meeting of the month.
If anyone is able to present we always need more speakers! Contact @Aidan or the co-chairs if you are able to contribute.

**3. ACCESS Community Workshop**
- ACCESS Community Workshop 2024 is next week. See the [webpage for more details and program](https://www.access-nri.org.au/access-community-workshop-2024/).
- The ESM Working Group half-day has 51 registered attendees! The [program is available on the ACCESS-NRI website](https://www.access-nri.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/ESM-WG-1.pdf). We have eight speakers spread over two sessions, with discussion time included in each session. Thanks to all who have volunteered to speak.
**4. ACCESS-NRI supported ACCESS-ESM1.5 Released**
ACCESS-NRI has released it’s first supported version of ACCESS-ESM1.5
