Available forcing data

Hello,
I was hoping to check if we now have shared forcing datasets for CABLE/JULES and/or the capacity to create these at sub-daily time scales from data available on Gadi?

Thanks,

Anna

Hello Anna,

the short answer is not yet.

Longer answer is we are working on both a met forcing pre-processor and an ancillary suite. The use of the ancillary suite has focused on AM3 for now as there is a need for the high-resolution ACCESS. This is very close to a working version. @lachlanswhyborn is looking for input on the mapping of CCI to CABLE’s PFTs.

For the meterological forcings, @abhaasgoyal has started working on it again in November or about. He has a prototype for ERA5 but it is very slow currently. He is working on clean up, documentation and tests in a first instance. We’ll work on the speed up afterwards and then on supporting more datasets.

Ok great. Partly asking as there is some interest from the DAVE group to use sub-daily data. We have a version of AGCD but it only goes to ~2020 as we don’t have access to BoM radiation data beyond then.

I’m still also clueless about anything science related () and can’t for the life of me remember if we need to bias-correct reanalysis data like ERA5 or BARRA to use it to force CABLE/JULES? Or can we use the raw data? @siyuan wondering what you’ve done with JULES?

Thanks,

Anna

I was using ERA5-land for the Met forcing except for precipitation. Planning to switch to BARRA2. But for JULES/CABLE comparison probably does not matter too much as long as we use the same forcing? Happy to share the forcing I have if useful for JULES/CABLE comparison.
