Gadi user accounts for training purposes

I imagine many of us have had this issue: you need to prepare a training session on gadi such as running a model. It requires complex prep work, like joining particular groups, setting up environment variables, gadi defaults, etc… You document all the steps but, how do you actually test that they are correct? You probably have already done all those steps (and maybe others?) before, so you can’t follow your own instructions as a fresh user.

It would be immensely helpful to have a gadi account that can be completely “reset” to default, as to properly test out instructions end-to-end. As far as I know that’s not possible right now, since NCI will give out one user per email.

Do you think it would be worth raising this with with NCI as a feature request? Do you think it would be even viable?

NCI do have dummy accounts for training events - presumably these get reset between events.

/etc/skel should be the default user home directory if you want to reset your ~/.bashrc to its original state

Oh, I didn’t know about that. How can I get access to a dummy account?

They’d normally be for a particular training event - the helpdesk should be able to organise them
