@regdowse and I are looking to use MOM6 for some process based studies of meso-scale eddy behaviour. Essentially, we want a square or rectangular domain, with topography and boundary conditions that can be modified.
I’ve never run idealised configurations before, but know that it can be done. Before heading down that road, I thought I’d ask if the community has any working configurations that they’d be willing and able to share?
In particular, we’d like to play with:
Bathymetry;
Boundary conditions - open on all sides, open on 3 sides, background currents, etc…
Surface forcing (wind and boundary).
Any pointers gratefully received! Happy to provide further detail if that helps.
You’re welcome to use ANU-tub - but note that boundaries are not open. I can try to extract another half-basin case with one open boundary if that would help?
We are attempting to understand eddy propagation and tilt in the presence/absence of a coastline in an EAC like environment, and we’d like to impose a background flow-hence the open boundaries. If a half-basin case exists, that would be very useful.
Hmm. Maybe you would prefer a case that uses isopycnal coordinates instead of z* coordinates then? If yes, @navidcy might have a 5-layer eddying channel config that might work.
Anyway, if you still have access to x77, you could have a look at this one: /g/data/x77/amh157/tub-north
Sorry, this one isn’t on GitHub and it was run about 7 years ago (on Raijin; for Hogg & Gayen, 2020) so might need a bit of updating. But you will get the idea.
