Community Call - ACCESS-AM3 Training Requirements

Dear ACCESS Community,

As we push forward towards the Beta release of ACCESS-AM3 we would like to poll the community about what sorts of training (both user and developer) would be useful for ACCESS-NRI to deliver.

As with all ACCESS-NRI model releases, training and documentation will be provided around setting up and running the model in it’s default configuration. However, if you have any specific requirements that you’d like to see addressed in training, please respond to this post by 01/05/2026 with your suggestions.

While we may not have the capacity to cover all requests, your input will help us at ACCESS-NRI to prepare suitable training material that best serves the community.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi! I’ve compiled a few suggestions from 21st century weather team working on he Hi-res experiments.

  • Log files: Where to find the log files associated with the jobs and with the model, how to interpret the various log files for errors.
  • Rose configuration files: training on understanding how configuration files work and how to modify a configuration (for experienced users). Related to the discussion here Undestanding the many `rose-app*.config` file in a suite
  • Ancils: How to modify/create different SST files to use as boundary conditions.

Hi @ben

Thank you for the efforts. As a user, I think it would be great to have the following instructions:

  1. How to modify UM source code (even just a few parameters), recompile and use it for the simulation
  2. How to modify CO2 concentrations for each year or all years
  3. How to run the simulation for pre-industrial control climate

These capabilities could be essential for users to investigate relevant research questions.

Regards, Qinggang
