Experiment title
: UM RNS + GLOMAP-CASIM simulations to assess cloud, radiation and precipitation sensitivity to sea spray aerosol emissions over the Great Barrier Reef.
Summary
: 560 KSU requested to run 2x sea spray emission perturbation simulations, using a GLOMAP-CASIM enabled version of the RNS over a north-eastern Australia domain during the 2022 summer.
Scientific motivation: Assess the sensitivity of cloud, radiation and precipitation to increased sea spray emissions over the GBR. We would like to run 2x simulations, with moderate and high sea salt emissions added over the GBR. The results will primarily be used to assess the efficacy and potential risks of marine cloud brightening (proposed as an intervention to mitigate coral bleaching), alongside outputs from a control run already available on NCI. The simulations will include revisions to the aerosol scheme to include Aitken mode primary sea salt emissions, as well as updates to the aerosol activation scheme (based on Ghosh et al., 2025).
