Experiment Proposal: Fast-Track Abrupt CO₂ Experiments

Experiment title :bell:: Fast-Track Abrupt CO₂ Experiments

Summary :bell:: A set of fast-track abrupt CO₂ experiments is requested in support of the CMIP7 Assessment Fast Track submission. These simulations are required to rapidly generate standardized outputs for analysis of climate sensitivity, transient adjustment processes, and large-scale circulation responses under idealized forcing scenarios.

Scientific motivation:
These experiments are a priority for CFMIP and are thought to be useful for IPCC analysis.

Experiment Name :bell:: Abrupt 2xCO₂ and Abrupt 0.5xCO₂.

People :bell:: S. Abhik (@abhik), Spencer Wong (@spencerwong), Peter Dobrohotoff (@peterdobro), Rachel Law (@RachelLaw).
Model: ACCESS-ESM1.6
Configuration: dev-2xCO2+concentrations; dev-0.5*CO2+concentrations
Initial conditions: ESM1.6 piControl simulation (restart099).
Run plan: 300 years of simulation for each experiment.
Simulation details: Will be performed in 2026 Q2.
Total KSUs required :bell:: ~600 kSU (considering 1 kSU per calendar year simulation).
Total storage required :bell:: ~10 TB. Temporary storage in /scratch/p66, which will be moved to /g/data/p73 after completion of the simulations.
Storage lifetime :bell:: 2-3 years.
Long term data plan :bell:: model outputs will be transferred to CSIRO tape.
Outputs: standard outputs as for other CMIP7 idealised experiments.
Restarts: as the abrupt4xCO2 configuration.

Analysis: To be updated.

Conclusion: This request supports time-sensitive Assessment activities by generating key idealized forcing experiments using the ESM1.6 framework.
