Experiment title : ACCESS-CM3 runs for development towards a science-ready configuration, especially evaluation and tuning of ENSO
Summary :
I’ve recently started an internship with ACCESS-NRI, working on the evaluation and tuning of the ACCESS-CM3 model. Could the atmosphere working group contribute some resources towards getting the CM3 model science-ready?
Scientific motivation:
The ACCESS-CM3 model includes a UM component, and thus will be a future tool for the atmospheric community to use. In particular, it will model atmospheric processes in future CMIP scenarios and in conjunction with when coupled modes of variability such as ENSO.
Experiment Name : cm3_eval_enso
People : @jemmajeffree (jj8842)
Model: ACCESS-CM3
Configuration: Starting from GitHub - ACCESS-NRI/dev_coupling, though probably changing some aspects to try and reduce model biases
Initial conditions: varied
Run plan: It’d be great to start with 10 years of the 1° ocean (8 kSU/yr), and a year of the higher resolution 0.25° ocean (30 kSU/yr)
Simulation details:
Total KSUs required : 110kSU
Total storage required : ~2.5TB? This can be trimmed down if storage is tight, and I wouldn’t imagine datasets from these preliminary runs being kept long-term
