As a follow up to the CMIP7 model evaluation hackathon, I am posting here information from the land surface and carbon cycle group on the model evaluation metrics we require.
Desired metrics
Rather than providing a table of metrics we begin with a general list of variables and notes.
Much of the general purpose model evaluation for the land surface is already provided by ILAMB. The community prefers run-time diagnostics (diurnal cycle, physical bounds checking) for:
- Albedo
- Surface temperature
- Tasmax
- Tasmin
- Precipitation
- Soil Moisture
- GPP
- Energy, water and carbon closure
- Latent heat
- Sensible heat
- Ground heat
