Ancillary workflow:
- For CABLE, try to get initial conditions for soil moisture and soil temperature. Discussion that offline is initialised using a saturated state and a constant temperature. This will not work for rAM3 since we don’t do spin-up.
- Starting from half-saturation gives the shortest spin-up in JULES and using a uniform soil temperature.
- Start with a simple choice (latitudinal gradient of temperature) and see if the spin-up goes well. Complicate things (e.g. taking air temperature from an external dataset) if necessary.
- High-res AM3 meeting: new CCI ancillary workflow gives 8% increase in compute usage. It could be because more tiles are produced now. Might be worth adding a threshold on the fraction represented by the tile.
Met-forcing pre-processor:
Looking at having a published dataset for CABLE ready by the end of the year. The dataset should be available for Gadi users before that.
BLAZE and groundwater:
BLAZE: Ian absent
groundwater on pause due to ESM1.6 and AM3 releases.
Pan-GLASS conference:
What are the working groups for: reflect what people have highlighted that need attention. Give a chance to engage and suggest new topics. It would be good to connect with the working groups if interested in the topics. GLASS working groups mailing-list sign-up
Instructions for running JULES offline from the Bureau: Siyuan is happy to share their instructions. Interest in getting these instructions supported by ACCESS-NRI.
Rachel presenting an update on the CMIP7 effort with results from the historical ensembles. Bug in the LUC code that is under investigation, should not have a large impact compared to the spread in the ensemble. Cmorisation of the output has started.
Upcoming meetings:
Next meeting will have Jatin presenting.
Following meetings in August and September clash with Machine Learning/Atmosphere workshop, ESM/Land workshop and LSMS2 workshop. Considering the number of people expected to be away at each workshop, we will cancel the working group meeting during the ESM/Land workshop but keep the other 2 meetings on.
