Title
ACCESS-MICAS: a forecast-based tool for event attribution
About
The Australian Community Climate and Earth-System Simulator – Modified Initial Condition Attribution System, ACCESS-MICAS, is a forecast-based tool for extreme event attribution. Using the Bureau of Meteorology’s operational global coupled sub-seasonal to seasonal forecast version of ACCESS, ACCESS-S2 with modified initial conditions, we can re-forecast an event with counterfactual conditions and assess various contributors to the extremity of the event, including climate change. In this presentation we demonstrate how ACCESS-MICAS has been applied to Black Summer heatwave event and we invite collaborators to contact us if they are interested in analysing experiments using the system.
