Regional Ancillary Suite - submit-fails for the ancil_cap tasks

Hi Team,

I have just checked out (well actually done an fcm update of) the u-bu503/nri_access_ram3 suite and have tried running the default Lismore case and also in a copy of that suite for my own domain. Both are failing instantly (which isn’t being picked up by cylc - it just lives in ‘submitted’ land forever) at the Lismore_xxx_ancil_cap_orog tasks, with the only errors being:

[FAIL] [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/home/563/slf563/cylc-run/u-bu503/share'
mkdir: cannot create directory '/home/563/slf563/cylc-run/u-bu503': File exists
mkdir: cannot create directory '/home/563/slf563/cylc-run/u-bu503': File exists
mkdir: cannot create directory '/home/563/slf563/cylc-run/u-bu503': File exists
2026-08-18T02:05:59Z CRITICAL - failed/ERR

the /home/563/slf563/cylc-run/u-bu503/sharedoes exist so that’s confusing to begin with…

None of the other tasks fail, and if I manually tell cylc that the task ‘succeeded’ then all the other ancil_cap_xxx tasks fail in the same way.

Any ideas where I’ve gone wrong? Cheers,

Sonya

Hey Sonya, I had a similar issue last week. I tried a few things but I think what solved it was aligning NCI_PROJECT in the conf file with my default project. If they are different for you, then that is worth a try.

(I guess that could explain why the /cylc-run/u-bu503/ can’t be found, as it is linked from /scratch, and I think without any additional storage flags you can’t see /scratch directories other than your default project).

Amazing Andrew - thanks for that.

I at first tried adding my project (which should be my default project) to the NCI_PROJECT in the rose-suite.conf file. That didnt fix it. Then I added the storage flags to the site rc file:

--- site/nci-gadi/suite-adds.rc	(revision 363764)
+++ site/nci-gadi/suite-adds.rc	(working copy)
@@ -56,7 +56,7 @@
             -l ncpus = {{1}}
             -l mem = {{1 * NCI_MEM_GB_PER_CPU}}gb
             -l jobfs = 10gb
-            -l storage = gdata/access+gdata/hr22+gdata/ki32{{ "+" ~ NCI_STORAGE if NCI_STORAGE != "" else ""}}
+            -l storage = gdata/access+gdata/hr22+gdata/ki32+scratch/jk72+gdata/jk72{{ "+" ~ NCI_STORAGE if NCI_STORAGE != "" else ""}}
             -W umask = 0022

And that worked!
