Related to this post.

The plan is to meet regularly with ACCESS-NRI folks over the next 6 months or so to contribute to evaluation and tuning choices during the [ACCESS-OM3-25km] development. The team will also contribute to writing analysis code and the model documentation publication.

We’ll be announcing meetings/minutes/agenda items from here.

We talked about this at TWG yesterday, and mooted the following ideas for the agenda for next Wednesday (28th May) :

  • strategy (25km paper vs combined 100km, 25km and 8km paper, consider BGC, waves)
  • examples of other model description/evaluation papers
  • who and how to engage folks in evaluation
  • initial checks for model completeness (water + energy balance)

To help keep us on time, if any of the listed discussion leads have a slide to share, please send it to me asap so that I can organize them in one deck to avoid sharing screen lapses.
Thanks!
Paul

Thanks Paul – looks good to me.

For RSES folks - do you want to come over to ACCESS-NRI for the meeting? Alternative is that we could come to Hales, but I’m suggesting ACCESS-NRI because I’m marginal to make it on time, so it would be easier for me …

Following up on @AndyHoggANU’s message. We’ll keep an eye out for folks coming from RSES, there’s lots of people on site today so getting in the door should be a breeze. We’ll be in the big board room.

Great to see you all today, I’ve shared the minutes that @fabiobdias started here, this is a wiki so please amend or correct.

Thank you all for coming on the 28th May – great to see so much interest in our next steps!

Following from our chat on the 28th May, we (@cbull @edoddridge @PSpence @AndyHoggANU @aekiss) have put together a proposed set of next steps:

  • Continued community discussions on what we include, how we evaluate and publish an OM3 evaluation paper (@aekiss).
  • Develop list of required recipes that will serve for both 25km & 8km evaluation (@aekiss).
  • Work on and provide example of evaluation recipe for OM3 (resolution agnostic) (@cbull, @dougiesquire).
  • Working on converting remaining cosima recipes to intake ( @CharlesTurner, @marc.white).
  • Develop global 8km configuration - make input files that allow a config to be run (@cbull, @anton).
  • Finalise 25km beta-release of OM3 - for CM3, WOMBAT (Ocean Team).
  • Prepare initial 25km simulation and make it accessible via intake for evaluation (@minghangli).
  • Continued 100km work for WOMBAT and WW3 (@dougiesquire).
  • Maintain technical documentation for existing and new configurations (citable, versioned) (Ocean Team).

Feedback on this is very welcome (feel free to discuss on the forum in a new thread*
or email chris.bull@anu.edu.au).

*suggesting not here as this is an announce thread.

Help us evaluate and improve applications of OM3!

Following other COSIMA examples, we have a community based github repository for the “ACCESS-OM3 model evaluation team” that are helping with OM3 evaluation and development. Contributions from people of all career stages and backgrounds are highly encouraged.

All community members (and ACCESS-NRI staff) can get write access to the OM3 evaluation repository. To get write access, you need to create an issue and request access, please use this issue template. Evaluation figures are being coordinated here. Instructions to get started are here.

If you haven’t already and would like to be kept up to date, follow the announcements here and here.
