control run candidates update
“October B” is the current lead candidate but a decision still hasn’t been made.
Pearse: Colder at depth and warmer in the upper cell. This is similar to what biases we had in esm1.5 and had implications for the carbon cycle. 0.2 petagrams per carbon, currently trending downwards.
Tilo: Beginning of November we want to be transitioning to the control run.
Pearse: will run some sensitivity tests.
Pearse: how much compute do we have this quarter?
Tilo: we have ~7 MSU available and we’re currently tracking to use those but we will reduce down to 1 run once we have chosen a candidate (there will eventually be some spin off runs).
Forcing preparation
For the control runs, we still need the forcings. We’re waiting on the historical forcing but have the preindustrial.
Davide has been looking at the nitrogen forcing (whilst Paul was away), Paul needs to check in to where he got to
Paul has been looking at the ozone forcing, yet to come up with a proper spec for it. Having a chat to Martin about it.
Cable library update
Lachlan: almost ready to come in. Still waiting on a few spack tweaks (UM / Gcom). UM7 is failing CI. Paul: thought everything was supposed to be built with intel but is it an issue? Aidan/Anton thought this might be a pre-existing issue and can likely be bypassed. Manodeep sugested sharing the actual error just in case it’s highlighting a coding problem.
Misc
- Alex and Jhan looking at the new vegetation distribution.
- Manodeep: Scaling test was done with ESM1.6.
- martin/manodeep: doesn’t include segment size changes, could lead to greater
- martin/aidan: openmp as well? Not here but could in am3/ram3 (not a um option)
- Anton: diagnostic changes to cice5 are ready to go. Need someone to review. Spencer is back later this week, will ask @spencerwong to review. @sofarrell been looking at it.
- @Aidan still working on injecting global metadata using
payu. May not be a blocker if there will be CMORisation post-processing. - @cbull @clairecarouge @RachelLaw have worked on a starting template to the config docs. Please create a sub-issue here: Howto: add/edit the ESM1.6 configuration documentation · Issue #207 · ACCESS-NRI/access-esm1.6-configs · GitHub to start adding content. Details at the top of the issue on what to do. This structure is just a proposed starting point. Contributors are very welcome to adjust it.
- Current url is https://access-nri.github.io/access-esm1.6-configs/
- but this will change, we are currently working at final urls/versioning.
- when making changes a pr-previews will be generated allowing you to view your edits before merging them.
