Location of ACCESS land masks for ACCESS-AM2 sea-ice/SST ancillary creation

Hi everyone,

I’m creating some updated sea-ice and SST ancillary datasets for some ACCESS-AM2 model experiments I’m doing, based off of methods and code described by the UK MetOffice here. I have been able to create the ancillary files using data from input4mips up to 2021. My plan is to extend this to 2024 using the HADISST dataset.

For the creation of the ancillary datasets a land mask is required, and to check the code works I have just been using the UM land mask ancillary files found here:
/g/data/access/projects/access/data/ancil/GA6_N96/qrparm.mask

@Matt_Woodhouse said that the the ACCESS land mask should be used (rather than the UM land mask), but I don’t know where I can find this.
I was hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction!!

Thanks,
Alanah

Hi @alanah.chapman. I have marked this as inscope for ACCESS-NRI support. I’m currently trying to find someone who can assist, and will reply with a status update tomorrow.

Try /g/data/vk83/configurations/inputs/access-esm1p5/modern/share/atmosphere/grids/global.N96/2020.05.19/qrparm.mask

@spencerwong Can you please confirm that this is the correct land mask for @alanah.chapman ?

Hi @alanah.chapman, from what I understand from the linked MOSRS page and the code, it’s best to use the land fractions rather than the binary land mask, as the binary land mask may cut out partial land-ocean points.

It looks like the relevant file for the AM2 grid would be /g/data/access/projects/access/data/ancil/access_cm2_n96e/O1/qrparm.landfrac
