Model Tools
ACCESS-NRI is deploying model tools to use at NCI. Model tools are general purpose software packages to support model tasks such as pre and post-processing.
Deployment is done from the ACCESS-NRI/model-tools repository. Multiple packages can be defined and deployed from the same repository. Currently only one package is supported, and that release is outlined below.
The model tools software packages are for anyone to use, the only requirement is that you must be a member of NCI project vk83
. It is open for anyone to join this project.
Release:
fre-nctools/2024.05-1
FRE-NCtools is a collection of tools for creating grids and mosaics commonly used in climate and weather models, the remapping of data among grids, and the creation and manipulation of netCDF files. These tools were largely written by members of the GFDL Modeling Systems Group primarily for use in the Flexible Modeling System (FMS)Runtime Environment (FRE) supporting the work of the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL).
ACCESS-NRI maintains a fork of FRE-NCTOOLS which shadows the latest GFDL version, but allows for timely updates where necessary.
This release combines the GFDL 2024.05.02 version with an update to expose option to correct polar areas using rotate-poly algorithm to transfer_to_mosaic_grid.
How to use
The FRE-NCtools package contains a number of individual tools which are accessible through the module system at NCI:
module use /g/data/vk83/modules
module load model-tools/fre-nctools/2024.05-1
You have to be a member NCI project vk83
to access this software.
See the model-tools repo README for more details about accessing the package on at NCI.
For documentation on the tools contained in the package refer to the github repository.
