Overview of the World Climate Research Program (WCRP) km-scale Hackathon

In May, the ARC Centre of Excellence for 21st Century Weather, in partnership with NRI and ACCESS NRI, led the Australian node of the World Climate Research Program (WCRP) km-scale Hackathon.

This seminar will provide an overview of the hackathon’s science, logistics, and technical development, followed by a short presentation from each of the ten science projects sharing their experience and findings.

About the Hackathon

The hackathon brought together over 600 hundred scientists from 10 global nodes to analyse output from multiple climate models simulating the annual cycle at sub 5 km resolution, with a goal of sharing best practices and encouraging global data sharing and collaboration.

About the Graduate Colloquium

The Australian node of the Hackathon formed the 2025 Graduate Colloquium of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Weather of the 21st Century.

The Graduate Colloquium is a cornerstone of 21st Century Weather’s Training & Leadership Program.

We want graduate students to gain highly specialised knowledge in their own area of research, as well as a broad understanding of the wider discipline. These events provide this opportunity.
