I’m posting this question on behalf of Hooman Ayat, as I’m unsure of the answer. Do the soil moisture products from UM and ERA5/ERA5-Land have the same vertical layer thicknesses? Any insights would be greatly appreciated!
They should do, https://code.metoffice.gov.uk/doc/um/latest/papers/umdp_303.pdf is the docs for initialising from GRIB as we do with ERA5, let me look up what the actual thicknesses are
For the nesting suite, soil layer depths are dzsoil_io
, should be set to 0.10m, 0.25m, 0.65m, 2.00m
.
ERA5-land soil layers are
- Layer 1: 0-7cm
- Layer 2: 7-28cm
- Layer 3: 28-100cm
- Layer 4: 100-289cm
