Hi COSIMA,

Just a reminder that there is no COSIMA meeting this week, as the 21st Century Weather workshop is on.

In case anyone missed the announcement at the meeting last week: the dates for the 2026 COSIMA Workshop are 16-20th November in Hobart. This will be a combined event with the ACCESS Cryosphere Science community working group. Put it in your calendars!

A reminder that if you are interested in being a future Co-Chair of COSIMA, please get in touch with myself or @PSpence by the end of this week (details in an earlier post above).

Finally, if anyone is in need of compute this quarter, please get in touch.

Cheers,
Adele

A little more detail on point 2 above. This is really exciting news: We are starting a 10 minute segment of the weekly COSIMA meeting to demystify the MOM6 code (likely with CICE6/WOMBAT etc to follow in due course).

If you don’t feel confident e.g. knowing how to find and decipher the code that matches a particular diagnostic you’re using, or you’ve always wondered how a specific parameterisation worked, this is for you! It will also be useful for MOM5 users given the large overlap in parameterisations / code format etc. Even for those using output and not considering running a model, this should still be super useful to understand more about how the model is behaving the way it does.

The initial schedule and ideas for future topics are here. Please let me know if there are more topics you’d like to add to the list, or if you’d like to volunteer to run one of them.

Starting today, then every Thursday at 11:30am!

Adele

COSIMA is about to receive a lot of extra compute that needs using before the end of the year. Have you been dreaming of a new simulation? Please send me an email with an estimated compute budget if you think you could use extra in the next 2 weeks!

Following on @adele-morrison 's previous announcement, the ol01 project currently has 1.3 MSU available to use before the 31st December. If you think you can make use of some of it, please send me a message. If possible I’d like to know by the end of today because I may have other projects that could use some of the allocation.

Hi @clairecarouge, we have these ol01 hours all accounted for. @claireyung is running the ice shelf model out and we’re just finishing off our ANUMAS allocation now, then she will switch to ol01. We could also use an additional 2-3 MSU beyond what is currently on ol01 in the next week if available from other WGs. Thanks!

Thanks Adele. I almost sent you an email to ask but Outlook said you were already on holidays (auto-replies). Good to know you have a plan to use the SU.

I don’t think I can get an additional 2-3 MSU, at max I can get 500 kSU and tm70 needs 100 kSU more.

The ACCESS-NRI Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) is changing the way it operates, and we are now inviting self-nominations for new members.
