ENSO planton et al. metric

Dear ENSO researchers,
as far as I know the Planton et al. ENSO metric is somewhere installed on NCI. Not sure how it works, but as far as I know it only creates plots, but does not allow to look at the data to compare runs.

I have been using the ENSO metrics a lot over the past two years at MPI to develop the new ICON model for better ENSO perfomance and I thought I share how we did this.

A few points:

(1) I have put some example data, plots and scripts on gadi:
/g/data/lg87/dxd565/enso-metric

(2) Below are some figure examples that show how you can compare ENSO metric of different runs vs. observations based on these Planton et al. ENSO metric codes.

(3) Ideally we would create these Planton et al. ENSO metric data for each run that we do with ACCESS, so that everyone can do their own plots or analysis with it.

(4) It would be nice if we can do these kind analysis at NCI. Not sure who would be capable in setting this up.

I am also happy to present this kind of ENSO analysis in the ACCESS-ESM meeting.

best regards
Dietmar

@rbeucher might have some suggestions.

Cool! I’d be keen to see this in a ESM meeting. Unfortunetely i’ve had a lot of clashes lately but should be able to join more frequently in the coming weeks.
