ESM Working Group Meeting

1. Admin

  • Science presentations: Consider contacting the co-chairs or @spencerwong if you have any work you would like to present in meetings next year. Please consider presenting, even work in progress that you’d like some feedback on.
  • Add any items you want this WG to discuss to ideas for topics

2. Shared experiments/ACCESS-NRI resources

  • 899 KSU have been used out of the 1.10 MSU grant this quarter.
  • /g/data storage is 65 TB out of the 100 TB allocation.
  • Any proposals for shared experiments for next quarter? See guidelines for how to do this.
  • There will likely be an SU rebalancing later in the quarter. Please upload a proposal if you have any experiments you would like to run this quarter.

3. Science presentation

  • Dakuan Yu from the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology will be presenting on ENSO optimization for ICON Earth System Model

4. Tuesday 9 December CM3 Dev-Eval meeting

  • A short reminder that the 2nd CM3 Dev-Eval meeting is hapenning on Tuesday 9 December at 10:30am. Everyone is welcome to join!
  • Please add any figures, links to GitHub issues, or items for discussion to the wiki post here.

5. CMIP7/ESM focused workshop in 2026

  • ACCESS-NRI will be hosting a series of smaller, focused workshops rather than a single large community workshop. The goals of these workshops will be to continue to build bridges between different community working groups, provide focused forums to showcase specific topics, and to continue to engage ECRs with ACCESS-related science and development
  • These will include a CMIP7/ESM focused workshop which covers coupled earth system modelling and evaluation and will involve the ESM and land working groups.
  • The plan is to hold a training or hackathon day, along with two days of workshop. This would take place around early September in Melbourne.
  • We are hoping to assemble a program committee to work on the planning for this workshop. Would any working group members be interested in being involved?

6. New support for data storage and sharing

  • @spencerwong will share a brief update on changes to ACCESS-NRI supported data storage and sharing.
