Just had the following forwarded to me, thought some of the ACCESS and COSIMA teams might find it interesting:
Ocean Policy Research Institute (OPRI) of the Sasakawa Peace
Foundation (SPF) launched the “Ocean Shot” grant program last year with
the aim of supporting research towards new discoveries in the ocean.
Our program aims to provide funding to researchers worldwide, allowing
them to push the boundaries of marine research through cutting-edge
technologies and groundbreaking discoveries.
The Ocean Shot grant program is specifically designed to support two
areas of research:
- Discoveries of new marine organisms or ecologies and their
functions
2. New technologies or data science to facilitate discoveries in the
ocean
The upper limit of the grant amount for a single Proper Project, at a
maximum length of 3 years (from Phase 1 to Phase 3) will be US$3,000,000
in total.
The deadline for submission of applications is 5:00 pm (Japan time)
Saturday, August 31, 2024 .
We believe that these areas of research are critical to expanding our
knowledge of the ocean and marine ecosystems and advancing our efforts
to protect them. With the help of Ocean Shot, researchers will be
empowered to make significant contributions and develop innovative
solutions to the challenges facing our ocean.
We are now inviting the most esteemed research institutions and any
other organizations around the world to submit proposals for the Ocean
Shot grant program. We encourage all those who are passionate about
ocean sciences to take advantage of this opportunity to expand their
research and make a difference in the world.

.
It is the hope of the Ocean Policy Research Institute, through its
implementation of projects such as Ocean Shot and the timely
dissemination of research results both in Japan and abroad, to
contribute to the progress being made in the conservation and
sustainable use of the oceans.
We therefore enthusiastically expect leading-edge research to stem
from this program and keenly look forward to working alongside the
brightest minds in marine research to advance our understanding of the
ocean and its ecology.
