The WCRP Earth System Modelling and Observations (ESMO) Core Project is collaborating with the WMO Research Board/WCRP Working Group on Numerical Experimentation (WGNE), the WWRP Working Group on Data Assimilation and Observing Systems (DAOS), the WCRP Digital Earths Lighthouse Activity, and the CLIVAR Ocean Model Development Panel (OMDP) to assemble an understanding of how the physical state of the ocean is initialized in a range of coupled modelling systems.
