We’ve successfully run AM3 in high-resolution for 2 years! Now what?
While plans for future experiments are being cooked up, we wanted to take a closer look at the simulations and make sure everything looks good.
So, this is an invitation for everyone!
Current data:
2-year 2007-2008 global simulations:
- hi-res n512 (~25km)
/g/data/gb02/public/AM3/output/control/n512 - low-res n96 (~135km)
/g/data/gb02/public/AM3/output/control/n96
List of variables here.
Configuration here.
Main goals:
- Check that the hi-res simulation looks ok and the configuration we’ve developed can be trusted. This includes comparing the hi-res simulation with their lo-res version.
What else do we get from this?
- Collect code/recipes for common analyses that can be used in the future to evaluate other simulations or as a starting point for new users.
- Discuss ideas for future experiments!
List of figures/analysis
The first step is to create a list of potential figures or analyses we’d like to produce and discuss. Ideally, we also need volunteers to write the code and share it with everyone else.
So, here is a start of the list! Please suggest new items, and volunteer to do some analysis!
- Soil moisture times series
- Global + regional surface temperature time series
- Monthly mean precipitation
- Global TOA and surface energy balance
- Weather objects
- Climatologies for TS, PSL, wind at pressure levels, etc (for when we run longer simulations)
In a few days, we’ll move this list to this GitHub repo to start working
and then we plan to set aside a few minutes in our hi-res fortnightly meeting to discuss figures and ideas!
