ACCESS-CM2-025 piControl simulation: wishlist for output?

Hello,

I am about to start a ~250 year piControl simulation with ACCESS-CM2-025 (ocean at 0.25°, atm at n96). I am keen to know if you are interested in any particular output that I should add, both for the spin-up and/or for X years at the end. Please get in contact with me by replying to this post, DM, carrier pigeons, …

Cheers,
Wilma

I’m interested in output - what are you currently saving?

I’m interested in sea ice output for identifying/investigating extremes. I imagine you’ll save this anyway, but I’d prefer the native CICE diags than the CMIP6 diags. Monthly resolution would be fine.

For the spin-up, I’m planning monthly data only. At the end, I want to run ~50 years with more output which can be used as a control run for perturbation experiments. I likely use the output also available for the piControl ACCESS-CM2 (1°) + any extra requests.

Spinup: The atm/ice output is not that large compared to the ocean so could write out the “whole lot” or reduce to

  • atm: temp, specific humidity, pressure, u, v, sw/lw radiation, total precipitation
  • ice: area, concentration, thickness/volume

For the ocean output at least

  • 1D: ocean heat/salt content, global avg SST/SSS, ocean KE/PE
  • 2D: mld, sea_level
  • 3D: temp, salt, u, v, pot_rho_0, age(?), overturning diagnostics(?)

Happy to adjust any of the above.

I’d also be interested in output. I don’t think I’d want more than 3D temp and atmosphere winds, though it could be nice to also have atmo w or omega (vertical velocity in m/s or Pa/s) to enable calculation of streamfunctions

for the atmosphere could you also keep geopotential height (3D) and 2D (latent/sensible heat flux at surface?)

Hi Wilma,
I think it would be good to keep ty_trans and tx_trans.
