ESM Working Group Announce

Meeting schedule for 2026

In 2026 we’ll be continuing the alternating schedule between the ESM Working Group meetings focused on science presentations and community updates, and the CM3 Dev-Eval meetings focused on community evaluation of the in-development ACCESS-CM3 model.

Both types of meetings will fully transition to the new Tuesday 10:30am AEDT time slot, and we’ll alternate between the two types of meetings on a fortnightly schedule.

The first meeting of 2026 will be a CM3 Dev-Eval meeting on Tuesday 20 January at 10:30am AEDT. If you have made any figures that you would like to discuss, please add them to the meeting agenda here!

Have a good break and see you in 2026!

Hi Spencer,
Thanks but I just tried adding this calendar link and it’s still scheduled on Thursday fortnightly as per the old timeslot. For clarify I’m pasting the URL again here:
https://outlook.office365.com/owa/calendar/463c5a6d0bba4c838dce9c57933398fb@anu.edu.au/3086e7a51b0d48ef85bee981a597274413647516456690471131/calendar.ics

(I was already subscribed to the old ESM working group calendar feed… I never saw it change from Thursdays.)

Regards,
David

Hi David,

I had the same issue, so I removed the old calendar and then added it again via the URL and it updated.

Regards, Shayne

Hi Shayne, Spencer,
I just looked again this morning and yes, the same calendar I mentioned yesterday is now showing up as Tuesday meetings. So, perhaps the system just took some time to adjust the online updates because I haven’t done anything in the meantime.
Thank you for updating this Spencer!
Regards,
David

New CM3 simulation

Hi everyone,

We have a new CM3 run up and ready for you all to analyse! /g/data/zv30/non-cmip/ACCESS-CM3/cm3-run-20-01-2026-om3-update/cm3-datastore/cm3-datastore.json

This run features updated OM3 components GitHub - ACCESS-NRI/ACCESS-OM3 at access-cm3-2025.12.0, pseudo-iceberg fluxes, and a more accurate wind stress remapping.

Currently we have 50 years archived, and we’ll continue to add to this as the run progresses.

The next CM3 dev-eval meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 3 March at 10:30 AM.

Community input invited: ACCESS-NRI Annual Work Plan (FY2026-27)

Dear ACCESS Community,

ACCESS-NRI is commencing its planning cycle to develop our next Annual Work Plan (FY2026-27), and we are keen to involve the community more closely in this process.

This year, we are introducing multiple opportunities for community input as the work plan is developed and refined. Feedback will be sought at three key stages, allowing ideas and priorities to be shared early, and reviewed as the plan takes shape.

Key dates for community input and feedback

  • 5 February – 16 March
Online form opens to collect early input and feedback to inform drafting of the new work plan.
  • April
Community feedback on the initial draft of the work plan.
  • Mid-late May
Final community review (for minor updates only).

The online form for early input is now open and closes on 16 March, 2026. To help inform your feedback, you may wish to refer to our current-year status report (FY2025-26).

We encourage community members to share their ideas, priorities and suggestions via this form. Early feedback will help inform the initial drafting of the work plan.

We look forward to working with the community to shape priorities for the coming year.

For any questions, please contact access.nri@anu.edu.au.

Kind regards,
ACCESS-NRI

Hi,

A reminder that the first period for community input on the ACCESS‑NRI Work Plan for FY26–27 is now open and will close on Monday, 16 March . If you haven’t already, please take a moment to share your feedback, through this form—your insights are essential to shaping the upcoming work plan.

We welcome all input, big or small, new ideas or projects already discussed, ideas on model development, usability, release, accessibility, evaluation, tools, etc.

You can find more information on the ACCESS-Hive forum.

Are you running an ACCESS-NRI supported model?

:globe_showing_asia_australia: Are you running any of these ACCESS-NRI supported models: ACCESS-AM, ACCESS-CM, ACCESS-ESM, ACCESS-rAM, or ACCESS-rCM? :globe_showing_asia_australia: :link: UKMO EULA signing page

If so, you will need to hold a valid MOSRS account and agree to the Terms of Use for the End User Licence Agreement (EULA) with the UK Met Office (UKMO) that allows ACCESS-NRI to distribute proprietary UKMO software to Australian research institutions.

ACCESS-NRI partner universities ANU, UNSW, UTas (including AAD), Monash Uni and UniMelb have recently signed an updated agreement outlining the conditions in this new EULA. Individuals affiliated with these partner universities are now being asked to read and accept the Terms of Use for the Agreement so they can continue accessing UKMO software and documentation. If this applies to you, please complete the UKMO Licensing process by following the steps on the UKMO EULA signing page. For verification purposes, you must have AAF Authentication on your ACCESS-Hive Forum account.

Please complete this by 8 May 2026 so that you can continue to use and access UKMO software and licensed material.

For more information and FAQs, see the post Accessing UKMO licensed models on the ACCESS-Hive Forum. If you encounter any problems, please send a message to the UKMO_Admin group on the ACCESS-Hive Forum.

2. Shared experiments/ACCESS-NRI resources

  • Q2 experiments: 330KSU have been used out of the 2.00 MSU grant this quarter. If you have any experiments you would like to run, please add a proposal on the forum guidelines for how to do this. We encourage you to run experiments early in the quarter, as it helps with resource allocation. An additional 20MSU will be available to working groups and NRI work, and will be allocated on a first-come-first-serve basis.
  • gdata storage /g/data/lg87 has recently reached is 94 TB out of the 100 TB allocation. It would be much appreciated if you can clean up any no longer needed data as it will free up space for new experiments.

4. Science presentation: Flux corrections

  • @Dietmar_Dommenget will be giving a science presentation on his work on flux corrections in coupled models.

5. UK Met Office user license agreement
